GreenCoat PLX Legacy color coated steel is a product for tinsmith applications where the roof and coverings will be painted on site giving traditional handcrafted appearance. Typical applications are old cultural historic buildings’ roofs to be renovated.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy is highly suited and recommended to be painted immediately after installation on worksite. It does not need weathering period or primer painting like pure zinc coated roofs. Painting on the coating has been tested; it works well for both new water based and traditional linen paints. GreenCoat PLX Legacy color coated steel offers an increased friction of the top coating for safe working on the roof.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy possesses excellent forming properties enabling very demanding folding even down to -15°C, allowing for year round installation at lower costs. It is therefore recommended for long-strip roofing.
The reverse side of the sheet is painted with a two-layer Limestone Turquoise color backside coating.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy complies with current REACH regulations and is fully chromate-free.
SSAB’s color coated steels are all manufactured according to EN 10169.
GreenCoat and PLX are trademarks of the SSAB group of companies.
1) PLX fulfills the requirements of EN 10346 DX54D.
2) Maximum steel thickness is 1.5 mm and maximum steel width depends on steel thickness. For other steel dimensions or steel grades please contact SSAB Tech Support.

Unless otherwise specified, the reverse side of the sheet is painted with a two-layer coating to further improve the corrosion resistance of the end product. The coating provides good adhesion properties to many adhesives and foams; nevertheless the compatibility needs to be tested case-specifically.
For easy material identification the reverse side of the sheet is stamped with the GreenCoat logo and the product name. The production year is marked to ease material traceability and can be referred to within the guarantee period. An arrow shows the direction of production to ensure installation in a uniform direction.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy is highly suited to be painted immediately after installation on worksite. Washing the surface prior to painting with a low pressure (<100 bar) is generally enough, and thus the usage of chemicals on site will be reduced. However commercial roof cleaning agents can be used if the surface is dirty. Painting must be done on a dry surface, in a temperature higher than +5°C and air humidity less than 75%. %. Residues of sealant must be removed continuously during the installation period and should be also checked after the installation is finalized. Otherwise the sealant residues can lead to poor adhesion to the GreenCoat Legacy primer which will be over painted with finishing paints on site.
Only suitable finishing paints are to be used according the instructions given by the paint supplier. The best painting result is achieved by manually painting the seams and folds before spraying the whole area. Durability and adhesion depend on the paint type and the adhesion of the finishing paint must be controlled in every individual case according to the paint supplier’s instructions. Painting is recommended to be done as soon as possible after the installation when the conditions allow it, but latest the next summer if the roof has been installed during autumn or winter.
It is advised to keep a log about the finishing painting (cleaning and painting materials, working methods, temperature, and weather conditions). Documentation will also help in the maintenance and future repainting work. See also additional guidelines in “GreenCoat color coated steel - Maintenance instructions” at SSAB web pages.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy can be formed by hand and is workable at temperatures down to – 15°C. The thin coating may show micro cracks in seaming, but this does not influence the performance, as long as the finishing painting is done shortly after seaming. The product can be seamed with all common seaming tools and methods. Thixotropic butyl rubber based sealants are recommended to be used for sealing. Non-drying seaming oils are not recommended, as oily stains can reduce the adhesion of the finishing paint.
GreenCoat PLX Legacy should be stored indoors since the product is designed to be over painted and not to be exposed outdoors for a long period without the finishing paint.
