Our world is built using steel. Cars, trucks, buildings, bridges, and wind towers are just a few examples of items where steel plays a decisive role. And if something is not made out of steel, it’s probably built with a machine made of steel.

Steel has many advantages and that’s why it’s used in every aspect of our lives. Recyclable, strong and durable are just a few of its many advantages.

With our steel solutions, we want to provide a unique offering for our customers based on quality, expertise and sustainability.

We aim to revolutionize the steel industry by transforming our Nordic production system. We’re investing in new, highly efficient steel mills, which will improve the product-mix, shorten lead times and lower cost, while removing CO₂ emissions from our steel production. Our ambition can reduce Sweden’s CO₂ emissions by 10% and Finland’s by 7%, and lead the steel industry toward a greener future.

We’ve been in the steel business for more than 140 years. We’re proud of our strong Nordic roots, but also proud of our strong global presence.

We’re global leaders in value-added, high-strength steels. We offer globally-recognized brands, and we lead our home markets in the Nordics and North America, where we have our production sites.

Even though we’re considered to be a small global steel producer, we’re paving the way to a greener future through ambitious goals and excellent partnerships and value chains. We aim to achieve industry-leading profitability.

All of us at SSAB – approximately 15,000 professionals in 50 countries – are on a journey, to transform the future of steel.

We’re revolutionizing steelmaking

Resource scarcity, continuing urbanization and climate change, combined with the increasing need for new infrastructure, create a growing need for more sustainable solutions. We firmly believe that SSAB and steel are part of the solution.

SSAB is revolutionizing steelmaking with decarbonized steels with virtually zero fossil carbon emission – paving the way for a greener future.

We’ve already launched SSAB Zero™, which is based on recycled steel and made using fossil-free energy. The quality and properties of SSAB Zero™ are the same as those of SSAB’s conventional steels. It’s the first steel of its kind and commercially available since 2023.

We’ve also succeeded in producing the world’s first fossil-free steel. Fossil-free steel is a proof of concept and pilot delivery from SSAB. By using hydrogen reduced sponge iron based on HYBRIT® technology, SSAB has removed the primary source of CO₂ emissions in steelmaking, so that the process emits water instead of CO₂.

We´ve delivered the first exclusive volumes of fossil-free steel to key customers for use in the production of, for example trucks, dumpers, car seats and watches. The next step is to ramp up the technology to an industrial scale, allowing for commercial volumes of SSAB Fossil-free^™ steel.

Our products and value chains are part of the solution

We think our production process can and must change, but our products can be part of the solution, too.

We encourage our customers to use high-strength steels, which can make their products lighter, thereby improving fuel efficiency and load capacity – already today.

We’ve many customer segments – heavy transport, automotive, material handling, construction machinery, energy, construction, etc. – all of which can benefit from our high-strength steels. Our steel solutions work everywhere.

By using SSAB’s high-strength steels, customers can achieve significant CO₂ savings during their end products’ use-phase. Step by step, these steels are becoming decarbonized, but still offering the same high-quality SSAB properties.
